In the thermal transfer printing process, material is applied to a substrate by melting a coat of ribbon so that it stays glued to the substrate. The smooth surface of Teslin substrate accepts thermal transfer (thermal mass transfer) printing to provide a very precise, durable, smudge-proof image. When using Teslin substrate with thermal transfer printing, always print on the smooth or top surface to get the highest print quality. Print quality, ribbon characteristics and printer settings are closely related. The durability of images produced by thermal transfer printing depends on the ribbon type and the environment to which the image is subjected. Dye Diffusion Thermal Transfer (D2T2) Printing
Teslin substrate requires a coating to be a good receiver sheet for dye diffusion thermal transfer printing, a process that employs a set of ribbons coated with a dye that is transferred to a receiver by heat and pressure. D2T2 printing on uncoated Teslin substrate will give poor image quality, and the dyes will continue to diffuse through the depth of the sheet, creating a ghost image on the reverse side.
